NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – The grimy streets of New Orleans witnessed a major blow against drug trafficking as Daniel Cabrera-Veragará, aged 41, received his fate on August 27, 2025. Sentenced to 126 months imprisonment for conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and four hundred grams or more of fentanyl, Cabrera-Veragará’s reign of terror over the Eastern District of Louisiana has come to an end.
According to court documents, Cabrera-Veragará and his co-conspirators were a formidable force in the drug trade, distributing multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine. Their reach extended beyond state lines as they facilitated transportation and distribution of narcotics, including proceeds, on behalf of a Mexico-based source.
The investigation that led to this high-profile sentence was a collaborative effort of several law enforcement agencies. The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) played a pivotal role in identifying and dismantling the criminal organization. This multi-agency approach ensured that no stone was left unturned in the pursuit of justice.
Leading the charge was the DEA New Orleans Field Division Office, with significant support from the FBI, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, United States Border Patrol, Gretna Major Crimes Task Force, Kenner Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit handled the prosecution, ensuring that Cabrera-Veragará faced the consequences of his actions. In addition to his lengthy prison sentence, he was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
