New Orleans, Louisiana – In a gritty display of law enforcement’s commitment to public safety, Elijah Martin, 27, a resident of New Orleans, has been handed a severe blow by the judicial system after pleading guilty on August 21, 2025, to violating the Federal Gun Control Act before United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown.
Martin, whose name is synonymous with the streets of New Orleans, faced two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. The charges stem from incidents occurring on December 16, 2023, and January 25, 2024, where Martin was found in possession of firearms – a Smith & Wesson Model M&P Shield, 9mm pistol, and a Glock Model 26, 9mm. Due to his prior felony convictions,马丁 is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms, making his actions an explicit violation of federal law.
Each count against Martin carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years imprisonment, with fines reaching $250,000, mandatory supervised release for up to three years, and a $100 special assessment fee. The severity of the penalties reflects the seriousness with which the court views gun possession by felons and the intent to deter such behavior.
This conviction is a direct result of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that brings together law enforcement agencies and communities to combat violent crime and gun violence, aiming to make neighborhoods safer for all. PSN’s strategy includes fostering trust in communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes to ensure effectiveness.
Investigating the case were the East Jefferson Parish Levee Police Department, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Lauren Sarver of the Narcotics Unit is handling the prosecution with determination.
Martin’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against gun violence and the tireless efforts of law enforcement to uphold justice. As the community continues to grapple with crime, the PSN initiative remains a beacon of hope for a safer New Orleans.
