New Orleans, LOUISIANA – In a stunning turn of justice, 19-year-old Eric Falkins has been sentenced to 66 months behind bars for his daring act of drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. The young defendant was caught with a stash of drugs hidden inside Touro Infirmary hospital, where he intended to sell the illicit goods.
Falkins admitted guilt on August 14, 2025, in a plea deal that included charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana, actual distribution, and possessing a firearm during drug trafficking. The court handed down a sentence of 66 months imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, and imposed a $300 mandatory special assessment fee.
According to court documents, Falkins had been selling marijuana in the Big Easy since at least 2023, operating under the radar with an alleged network of co-conspirators. His fateful visit to Touro Infirmary hospital on January 24, 2024, would change his fate. Inside a backpack that reeked of cannabis, authorities found two bags of marijuana, 17 pre-packaged bags, a bag of edibles, two scales, and a Radical Firearms Model RF-15 semi-automatic pistol, loaded with 29 rounds.
This case is a testament to the Department of Justice’s commitment to Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and make communities safer. The program focuses on fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results. Falkins’ conviction aligns with these principles, demonstrating the government’s dedication to curbing gun violence.
The investigation was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney David Berman of the Violent Crime Unit leading the prosecution. This sentence sends a clear message that the streets of New Orleans will not tolerate such dangerous behavior.
