Operation X-Nation: New York Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Mercer County Drug Trafficking Ring
A New York man has been sentenced to 186 months in federal prison for his role in a Mercer County drug trafficking ring, part of a larger multi-state operation known as Operation X-Nation.
James Walker, 43, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine, oxymorphone, oxycodone, and hydromorphone, and was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber.
Between August 2017 and August 31, 2019, Walker worked with other members of a drug trafficking organization to distribute prescription pills and cocaine in and around Mercer County.
Walker facilitated drug transactions with confidential informants working with law enforcement, directing them to meet with other members of the DTO at various trailers in Mercer County.
Law enforcement intercepted telephone calls between Walker and other members of the DTO, discussing drug transactions, pricing, and quantities.
Walker was arrested in New York after his calls were intercepted by law enforcement, and was in possession of approximately 1,500 prescription pills intended for distribution.
He was also arrested in Princeton on January 10, 2020, driving a car with a hidden mechanical trap used to transport controlled substances.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston commended the investigative work of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, which includes officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, the Princeton Police Department, and the Bluefield Police Department.
As part of his sentence, Walker forfeited $150,000 in proceeds generated from his drug trafficking activity.
