Fort Dodge Man Pleads Guilty to Gun and Meth Charges
Nicholas Janvrin, 32, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in federal court in Sioux City.
Janvrin’s guilty plea comes after law enforcement responded to a disturbance call at a local hotel in Webster City on August 1, 2023, and arrested him for outstanding arrest warrants. During a search of the hotel room, officers seized a Smith & Wesson .22 revolver and drug paraphernalia.
A DNA match from a known sample of Janvrin was found on the handle of the firearm and a toothbrush, establishing his involvement in the crime. Evidence also showed that Janvrin was involved in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine from January 2023 through August 2023, obtaining at least 40 pounds of the substance from a source in Des Moines.
Janvrin has a previous conviction of burglary, third degree, in the Iowa District Court for Hamilton County in 2021, which prohibits him from possessing any firearm.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa DCI Laboratory, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Nicholas Janvrin, 32, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, faces a possible maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment on the firearm conviction and a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, and at least five years of supervised release following imprisonment on the conspiracy conviction.
Janvrin remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing, which will be set after a presentence report is prepared.
