CLEVELAND – A group of Northern Ohio prosecutors and staff members are being hailed as heroes after a year of tireless work in the pursuit of justice. In 2025, the US Attorney’s Office in Cleveland saw a series of high-profile cases, from financial fraud to white-collar crimes.
The office’s annual awards ceremony, held on April 17, recognized the outstanding contributions of Assistant US Attorneys Robert Corts, Joseph Czerwien, and Elliot Morrison, as well as Paralegal Specialist Karen Vesely.
Corts was awarded the Career Achievement Award for his exceptional leadership and mentorship, while Czerwien took home the Attorney of the Year award for his commitment to the interests of justice. Morrison was recognized as Supervisor of the Year for his superior management skills, and Vesely was awarded the Support Staff Career Achievement Award for her dedication to the office.
US Attorney David M. Toepfer praised the award winners, saying, ‘Each year, we recognize a special group of employees for their exceptional achievements. The contributions of these men and women—are critical in executing our mission to protect the public by aggressively enforcing the law.’
