Nurse Stole Oxycodone for Patients
A former nurse at the Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Jamestown, New York, has been arrested and charged with distributing oxycodone to patients. Samilyn Olson, 46, is accused of stealing prescription forms from a nurse practitioner and forging the nurse’s name to write prescriptions for oxycodone. The prescriptions were then filled at a local pharmacy.
The indictment charges Olson with 17 counts, including conspiring to distribute oxycodone, obtaining oxycodone through fraud and forgery, and distributing oxycodone. Each conspiracy and distribution count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, the investigation revealed that Olson stole prescription forms from a nurse practitioner on eight occasions between May and September 2010. She then forged the nurse practitioner’s name and wrote prescriptions for oxycodone. The prescriptions were filled by Olson or others at a local pharmacy in Jamestown.
Olson made an initial appearance before Magistrate Judge J. Jeremiah McCarthy and was released. The investigation was conducted by the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, the Veterans Affairs Police Department, and the Jamestown Police Department.
The indictment is the result of a joint investigation by the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, the Veterans Affairs Police Department, and the Jamestown Police Department. The investigation was led by Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey G. Hughes of the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, Chief Michael Messina of the Veterans Affairs Police Department, and Chief Harry Snellings of the Jamestown Police Department.
