Williamsville Man Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Charge
Christopher Chase, 50, of Williamsville, New York, pleaded guilty to attempted receipt of child pornography in a federal court. The charge carries a minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum penalty of 20 years, and a $250,000 fine.
According to court documents, between March 10, 2017, and April 2, 2017, Chase engaged in sexually explicit online conversations with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. The defendant asked the undercover officer ‘Well how old are you?’ and after discovering the undercover officer was a minor, requested sexually explicit images and pictures.
Chase then requested to meet the person he believed was a minor female to engage in sexual activity. On April 2, 2017, the defendant arrived at a retail store parking lot believing he was going to meet and have sexual intercourse with the minor. He was arrested with condoms, sexual lubricant, and a sexual toy.
The plea is the result of an investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly. The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan P. Cantil.
Christopher Chase is scheduled to be sentenced on June 6, 2018, at 12:30 p.m. before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. The sentence will depend on the court’s discretion.
U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the guilty plea, stating that the defendant’s actions were ‘despicable and reprehensible.’ The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from online predators.
