Schenectady Man Sentenced to Over 15 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking
ALBANY, NEW YORK – A 36-year-old man from Schenectady, New York, has been given a lengthy prison sentence for his involvement in methamphetamine trafficking.
Ocyris Morgan, age 36, was sentenced to 188 months in prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to sell it. The sentencing took place on an unknown date, but the crime occurred on June 1, 2023.
According to the investigation, Morgan had planned to sell the 21.4 grams of methamphetamine that law enforcement seized from his house. When agents mentioned that they found between one-half and one ounce of methamphetamine, Morgan corrected them, stating, ‘21.7, to be exact.’
Further investigation revealed that Morgan had received $10,130 over the course of 12 instances in which he sold a total of 93 grams of methamphetamine and 50 grams of cocaine base to several customers. He also admitted to possessing a firearm and bullet-proof vest.
Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes imposed a 4-year term of supervised release and ordered Morgan to forfeit the $10,130 he made from the drug sales.
The FBI’s Capital District Safe Streets Task Force, which includes members of the FBI, Schenectady Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies, investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner prosecuted the case.
Morgan’s sentencing marks a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in the area. The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating drug trafficking and keeping communities safe.
