Idaho Man Pleads Guilty to Unregistered Firearm

Pocatello, Idaho – Odin Ray Jarshaw, 56, of Salmon, Idaho, pleaded guilty today to one count of possession of an unregistered firearm, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.

Jarshaw was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pocatello on October 23, 2013. According to the plea agreement, on May 9, 2013, the defendant was in possession of a Vulcan Arms, model 47, 7.62 x 39 caliber rifle, with a sawed-off barrel, that was not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

Prosecutors stated that Jarshaw agreed to forfeit the sawed-off rifle and a fully automatic machine gun. The charge is punishable by up to ten years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case was prosecuted as part of Idaho’s Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, which seeks to reduce gun violence in Idaho.

Jarshaw will be sentenced on July 7, 2014, before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Pocatello.
