Okmulgee Man Pleads Guilty to Firearm Possession

Brett Wayne Pigeon, a 32-year-old Okmulgee man, has pleaded guilty to a serious crime that could send him to prison for up to 10 years. Pigeon, who was convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, knowingly possessed a firearm, a Charles Daly 12-gauge pump action shotgun, serial number 950658, which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the indictment alleged that Pigeon possessed the firearm on or about March 23, 2018. The charges arose from an investigation by the Okmulgee Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Pigeon’s guilty plea was accepted by the Honorable Steven P. Shreder, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee. The judge ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris. Pigeon faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000.00, or both.

The guilty plea is a stark reminder of the serious consequences of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. It is a crime that can have devastating consequences for individuals and communities.
