Brandon L. Atwood, 33, of Olney, Illinois, Sentenced to 97 Months in Prison
Brandon L. Atwood, 33, of Olney, Illinois, has been sentenced to 97 months in federal prison on methamphetamine-related charges. The sentence was handed down after Atwood pleaded guilty to three counts of a federal indictment.
The charges stem from a conspiracy involving the distribution of methamphetamine from 2015 to 2017. Atwood admitted to conspiring with others to knowingly and intentionally distribute the illegal substance in violation of federal law. The total amount of methamphetamine involved in the conspiracy was five grams or more of crystal methamphetamine, commonly referred to as "Ice."
Atwood further admitted to distributing methamphetamine on two occasions in November 2017. All of Atwood’s crimes were committed in Richland County, Illinois. The investigation in this case was conducted by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
"This sentence demonstrates our commitment to holding individuals accountable for their role in the devastation caused by methamphetamine in our communities," said Steven D. Weinhoeft, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.
Atwood’s sentence is a reminder of the serious consequences that come with engaging in methamphetamine-related activity. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is commended for their work in investigating this case and bringing Atwood to justice.
