Omaha Man Sentenced to 20+ Years for Sex Trafficking of a Minor

A 26-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 20 years and 4 months in prison for sex trafficking of a minor, a federal judge ruled in a case brought as part of a nationwide initiative to combat child exploitation.

Glenn Whitney, 26, was sentenced by the Honorable Brian C. Buescher to 250 months’ imprisonment after being found guilty of sex trafficking of a minor.

The investigation, which began in September 2020 after an Omaha foster child was reported missing, revealed that the 16-year-old victim engaged in commercial sex acts in the Omaha area under Whitney’s direction. The victim was instructed on where to conduct the acts and how much to charge, with Whitney receiving financial proceeds from those acts.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Homeland Security Investigations, the Omaha Police Department, and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office all contributed to the investigation and prosecution of Whitney.

After his release from prison, Whitney will be required to serve 5 years of supervised release and will be registered as a sex offender. The federal prison system does not offer parole.

Glenn Whitney’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those who commit sex trafficking and exploitation crimes. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to aggressively pursue cases like this to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.
