Three Louisville men are behind bars after being charged with heroin and methamphetamine possession. Oscar Portillo, Pedro Abarca, and Jose Luis Madrigal II, all in their 20s and 30s, were arrested on October 30, 2015, in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
According to the complaint, the defendants knowingly and intentionally possessed heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance, with the intention of distributing it. The arrest was the result of a state search warrant executed at 3921 Bishop Lane in Louisville, where federal officers and others found a large quantity of heroin, packaged for distribution, as well as more than $100,000 in United States currency, an assault rifle, and a loaded handgun.
The three defendants lived at the residence, giving them direct access to and control over the contraband. If convicted at trial, they face a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison for each charge, a possible fine of up to $10,000,000, and a ten-year period of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Larry Fentress and is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Louisville Metro Police.
