Aaron Lee Mitter, 39, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, has been brought to justice for his role in distributing methamphetamine in the community. In a guilty plea, Mitter acknowledged selling approximately 24.52 grams of the highly addictive substance to a confidential informant for $280 on July 11, 2024.
But that was only the tip of the iceberg. Mitter further admitted to selling an unregistered privately made firearm, commonly known as a “ghost gun,” and a magazine capable of holding 45 rounds of ammunition, all for a whopping $400 on the same day. The sale of these illicit items is a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in our communities.
On July 17, 2024, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a Parkersburg apartment where Mitter was staying at the time. During the search, they seized approximately 45.67 grams of methamphetamine, which Mitter confessed was intended for distribution. The sheer quantity of the seized substance is a chilling indicator of the scope of Mitter’s operations.
“The sale of methamphetamine and illicit firearms is a menace to our community,” said Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston. “We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these operations, bringing perpetrators like Mitter to justice.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, and the Parkersburg Police Department all played critical roles in the investigation and arrest of Mitter. Their dedication to keeping our communities safe is a testament to the importance of interagency cooperation.
A United States District Judge has scheduled Mitter’s sentencing for September 22, 2025. The maximum penalty for this crime is 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine. Mitter’s fate will serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in such heinous activities.
