Donald Henson, Vehicle Assault on Federal Property, Pennsylvania 2024

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Donald Phillip Henson, 46, of Penn Hills, has been slammed with federal charges after a brazen attack on the FBI’s Pittsburgh Field Office. This morning, Henson intentionally rammed his vehicle into a security gate, leaving a trail of destruction and raising alarms.

According to the latest reports, the incident unfolded at 2:40 a.m., when Henson plowed into the protective barrier adjacent to a 24/7 staffed security booth. Following the crash, he made a chilling display by placing an American flag on the damaged gate before vanishing on foot.

Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti praised the swift response of law enforcement, stating, ‘Our office remains vigilant and stands in solidarity with our law enforcement colleagues in response to any attack—whether to their persons or to their property.’

Henson was nabbed by authorities later this morning, where he confessed his intentions. He told the FBI that he drove into the gate to ‘make a statement,’ appending the Latin phrase ‘sic semper tyrannis’ in reference to John Wilkes Booth. Read the affidavit .

The defendant faces serious penalties, up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for assaulting a federal officer under Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1) and (b). Damaging government property or contracts could result in an additional 10 years behind bars if the damage exceeds $1,000. Assistant United States Attorney Nicole Vasquez Schmitt is handling this case on behalf of the government.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation that led to the criminal complaint against Henson, with support from the University of Pittsburgh Police and Pittsburgh Bureau of Police in his apprehension.
