Pennsylvania Man Pleads Guilty to Misprision of a Felony

A Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony in the US Virgin Islands. Michael Leonard, 21, of Pennsylvania, admitted to helping conceal a shipment of cocaine on the island of St. John.

Leonard pleaded guilty in District Court before District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez to misprision of a felony, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to court documents, Leonard traveled with Reynaldo Lerburds and other individuals to a secluded area of St. John and was present when a shipment of cocaine was delivered. He took steps to help conceal the cocaine and did not make any effort to notify law enforcement of the receipt of the cocaine or his actions in concealing the cocaine.

When Leonard was arrested on April 18, 2018, he failed to inform law enforcement of the receipt of the cocaine or the transport of the cocaine.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.

Leonard is set to be sentenced on November 29, 2018. The court will determine his sentence based on the severity of the crime and his level of involvement.

The guilty plea is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the US Virgin Islands. Law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
