Jermaine Z. Lewis, Fentanyl Trafficking, Florida 2024

PENSACOLA, FL – Jermaine Z. Lewis, 32, of Pensacola, has admitted to flooding the streets with poison. The career criminal pled guilty in federal court to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl, alongside charges of possessing fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin with intent to distribute, and unlawful possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The guilty plea, announced by U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin, brings a significant blow to the drug trade in Northwest Florida.

“Federal law enforcement and our state and local partners are not going to idly sit by and let drug traffickers flood our streets with deadly drugs,” Heekin stated bluntly. “Through the great work of a multi-agency operation, this armed drug dealing felon will now be incapacitated, and the Pensacola community will be safer for it.” The statement underscores the escalating federal crackdown on drug distribution networks preying on vulnerable communities.

Court documents paint a grim picture of Lewis’ operation. Between January and February 2025, Lewis was actively peddling fentanyl throughout Pensacola. The investigation gained momentum when law enforcement intercepted a package mailed to Lewis containing a staggering four pounds of fentanyl pills. This discovery led to a March 2025 raid on Lewis’ residence, where authorities seized not only the deadly fentanyl, but also cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and two loaded firearms. The scene confirmed Lewis wasn’t just dealing drugs; he was armed and dangerous.

The search also unearthed wire receipts detailing money transfers to Mexico – a clear indication of the source of Lewis’ supply and his connection to international drug cartels. Lewis’ prior felony conviction adds another layer to his criminal profile, demonstrating a pattern of disregard for the law. He’s a repeat offender now facing the full weight of federal justice. This isn’t a first-time mistake; it’s a calculated continuation of criminal activity.

Lewis now faces the prospect of life imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for October 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the United States Courthouse in Pensacola before United States District Judge M. Casey Rodgers. The case was a collaborative effort, involving the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the Pensacola Police Department, and the Florida Highway Patrol. Assistant United States Attorneys David L. Goldberg and Jessica S. Etherton are prosecuting the case.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation streamlines resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, one of 94 nationwide, is leading the charge in the pursuit of justice.
