Matthew T. Miller, Methamphetamine Distribution, Illinois 2025

PEORIA, Ill. – The grimy streets of Peoria saw justice served as Matthew T. Miller, 40, was handed a 200-month sentence for his role in the methamphetamine trade. Miller was caught with over 86 grams of the drug during a tense traffic stop last September.

Miller’s crime spree began in June and continued until September 2024, when he sold meth on three separate occasions. The court heard that during a high-stakes confrontation at the traffic stop, Miller tried to destroy drugs by throwing them from his vehicle. Law enforcement found 55.72 grams of meth and marijuana on him.

Miller’s sentence, which includes a five-year supervised release term, is a heavy price for his addiction to crime. The court noted that Miller is a career offender, with previous drug offenses weighing heavily against him.

The Peoria man was indicted in October 2024 and pleaded guilty in January 2025. Since his arrest, he has been held by the U.S. Marshals Service. Under federal law, Miller’s distribution of over 50 grams of methamphetamine calls for a sentence of ten years to life.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Peoria Metropolitan Enforcement Group investigated, with the Peoria and Bartonville Police Departments lending support. Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa P. Ortiz led the prosecution.

Miller’s sentence sends a stark message to those who peddle poison on the streets of Peoria. The gritty city now waits for the transformation that PSN promises, hoping to turn the tide against drug trafficking and violent crime.
