Peter A. Maiolo, Jr., 42, Sentenced to Probation for Passing Counterfeit Currency
A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to four years of probation and ordered to pay $16,700.00 in restitution for passing counterfeit $100 Federal Reserve Notes at Target stores in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Peter A. Maiolo, Jr., of 6060 Jackson Street, Pittsburgh, PA, was sentenced by United States District Judge Cathy Bisson in federal court. Maiolo, 42, had pleaded guilty to the crime of passing and uttering counterfeit money.
According to information presented to the court, Maiolo had passed counterfeit $100s at multiple Target stores in the Western District of Pennsylvania. Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
United States Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the United States Secret Service for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Maiolo. ‘The United States Secret Service did outstanding work in bringing this case to justice,’ said Attorney Brady.
Maiolo will also serve eight months of home detention as part of his sentence. The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating financial crimes and protecting the integrity of our financial system.
