Phillip Mound, 25, Indicted for Assault in South Dakota
Phillip Mound, a 25-year-old man from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on several assault charges.
According to the indictment, Mound is accused of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, and Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury to an Intimate Partner.
The indictment alleges that on October 18, 2016, Mound unlawfully assaulted his dating partner, causing her serious injuries.
Mound was indicted on December 14, 2016, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on June 27, 2017, where he pled not guilty to the indictment.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 25 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 9 years of supervised release, and up to $300 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation is being conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller is prosecuting the case.
Mound was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
