Pine Ridge Man Sentenced to 7 Years for Abusive Sexual Contact
A Pine Ridge, South Dakota, man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a heinous sex crime. Ronald Pumpkin Seed, 36, was found guilty of Abusive Sexual Contact and was handed down a stiff sentence by Judge Karen E. Schreier in U.S. District Court on July 30, 2021.
According to court documents, Pumpkin Seed engaged in sexual contact with a female under the age of 10 between 2011 and 2016. The abuse took place in Pine Ridge, leaving a lasting impact on the victim.
Pumpkin Seed was indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2017 and pleaded guilty on April 30, 2021. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after sentencing.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen prosecuted the case. Pumpkin Seed was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The sentence handed down to Pumpkin Seed is a stark reminder that those who commit sex crimes against minors will face severe consequences. The Grimy Times commends the efforts of the investigators and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring Pumpkin Seed to justice.
Pumpkin Seed will serve 7 years in federal prison followed by 5 years of supervised release. The community can rest a little easier knowing that this predator is behind bars. However, the real work begins now as we continue to advocate for the rights and safety of all victims of sex crimes.
In a statement, Acting United States Attorney Dennis R. Holmes said, ‘We take these kinds of cases very seriously and are committed to holding those who commit sex crimes accountable for their actions.’
