Dale G. Stewart Jr, a 57-year-old man from Webster, New Hampshire, has pleaded guilty to building and detonating pipe bombs in Weare. On the evenings of April 26 and mornings of April 27, 2023, Stewart detonated two pipe bombs on Dustin Tavern Road and Sugar Hill Road. The motive behind the attacks is not clear, but the devices caused significant concern among local residents and law enforcement.
As part of the emergency response, law enforcement agents searched Stewart’s vehicle on South Stark Highway in Weare, where they found an undetonated pipe bomb. The device was constructed from white PVC pipe, with glued end caps and wrapped in black electrical tape, containing over 4 ounces of explosive material. Stewart admitted to building the devices at his home in Webster.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Weare Police Department, and the Federal Protective Service, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Hampshire State Police. Stewart faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 30, 2026, before U.S. District Court Judge Samantha D. Elliott. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cesar Vega and Anna Krasinski.
