Pittsburgh Crack Dealer David Kendrick Gets 10+ Years
PITTSBURGH – David Kendrick, 44, of Pittsburgh, PA, is headed to federal prison for over a decade after being sentenced for his role in a crack cocaine distribution network. Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti handed down a 130-month (10 years and 10 months) sentence, followed by eight years of supervised release, for violating federal narcotics laws. The sentence was announced today by United States Attorney Scott W. Brady.
The case, built on evidence presented to the court, detailed a conspiracy that ran from around January 2016 to May 2016. Kendrick wasn’t working alone; he conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base – commonly known as crack – a Schedule II controlled substance. This wasn’t a small-time operation; the scope of the conspiracy triggered a multi-agency response.
Assistant United States Attorneys Cindy K. Chung spearheaded the prosecution, demonstrating a clear commitment to dismantling drug networks in Western Pennsylvania. The investigation wasn’t a solo effort, however. It was conducted by the federally administered Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a powerful coalition designed to tackle major criminal enterprises.
U.S. Attorney Brady specifically praised the OCDETF’s work, highlighting the critical federal funding and coordination that allowed a massive network of agencies to collaborate. Those agencies include the Drug Enforcement Administration (leading the task force), the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, and a who’s who of local law enforcement: Ambridge, New Brighton, Beaver, Aliquippa, Moon Township, Wilkinsburg, West Mifflin, Allegheny County, Duquesne, Munhall, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
The OCDETF program’s strength lies in its ability to pool resources, breaking down silos between federal and state agencies. This allows investigators to effectively identify, investigate, and prosecute not just street-level dealers like Kendrick, but the larger organizations that fuel the drug trade. The Kendrick case serves as a stark reminder that those involved in pushing poison onto Pittsburgh’s streets will face serious consequences.
The sentencing of David Kendrick is the latest example of the federal government’s continued focus on disrupting drug trafficking in Pennsylvania. Authorities haven’t ruled out further investigations stemming from this case, suggesting that others involved in the conspiracy may soon face justice. This case remains a priority for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and its partners.
