PITTSBURGH – Duane Scott, a 23-year-old local drug kingpin, was sentenced to serve 63 months in federal prison for his role in a massive heroin trafficking scheme. United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced the sentence today.
Scott’s reign of terror continued even while he was on adult probation following a conviction for carrying a firearm without a license. Despite being under house arrest for much of 2010 and into 2011, Scott conspired with Harold Bacon and others to distribute hundreds of bricks of heroin. United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab also ordered four years of supervised release following his prison term.
Prosecutor Craig W. Haller represented the United States in this case, which underscored the determination of federal law enforcement to crack down on drug trafficking in the region. Scott’s sentence sends a clear message that those who peddle poison on the streets of Pittsburgh will be held accountable for their crimes.
U.S. Attorney Hickton praised the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, the Ross Township Police Department, the Canonsburg Police Department, and the Allegheny County Police Department for their tireless efforts in investigating and bringing Scott to justice.
This sentencing is a victory for the community of Pittsburgh, who have been under siege by drug dealers like Scott. The gritty fight against crime continues as law enforcement agencies across the city work tirelessly to keep neighborhoods safe from the clutches of organized criminal elements.
