PITTSBURGH – In a stunning turn of events, Eurie Nunley, 35, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. United States Attorney Scott W. Brady broke the news today.
Nunley’s plea came before United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak, where he admitted to illegally possessing a Glock 9mm pistol. This transgression occurred just seven months after his release from a 14-year state prison sentence for unlawful possession of a firearm and use of a firearm in a drug crime.
Under federal law, anyone convicted of a crime with a prison term exceeding one year is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Judge Hornak has scheduled Nunley’s sentencing for October 2, 2019, at 2 p.m. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
Assistant United States Attorney Colin J. Callahan is handling the prosecution on behalf of the government. The Pittsburgh Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation that led to Nunley’s arrest and prosecution.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through comprehensive solutions. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on violent offenders while partnering with local prevention and reentry programs to achieve lasting reductions in crime.
