Pittsburgh Landlord Gets Probation for $43,054 Housing Scam

A Pittsburgh landlord has been sentenced to five years probation with six months home confinement for his role in a $43,054 housing scam. Julio Rafael Antomachi, 28, of Pittsburgh, Pa., was convicted of theft of government property and ordered to pay restitution of $43,054.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Antomachi fraudulently received federal housing subsidy monies as a purported landlord of a property located on Friday Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He wrongfully converted $43,054.00 in federal housing subsidy monies from February 2010 through February 2015.

U.S. Chief District Court Judge Joy Flowers Conti handed down the sentence to Antomachi. The investigation was led by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of the Inspector General.

Assistant United States Attorney Mary McKeen Houghton prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of the Inspector General, for their work in bringing Antomachi to justice.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federal program designed to provide safe and affordable housing for low-income families. Antomachi’s actions not only defrauded the government but also potentially put families in danger by allowing a non-qualified landlord to manage a property.
