Pittston Man Sentenced for Heroin Trafficking Conspiracy

A 38-year-old Pittston man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for conspiring with others to distribute heroin in the Luzerne County area during a four-year time period, from 2010 through February 2014, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

The defendant, Sal Biscotto, previously pleaded guilty to committing the crime. He was charged in a Criminal Information filed by the United States Attorney on October 7, 2014, following an investigation by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Biscotto was handed down a 41-month prison sentence by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik in Scranton. The sentence is a result of the defendant’s guilty plea to conspiring to distribute heroin in the Luzerne County area.

As part of the sentence, Judge Kosik ordered Biscotto to be placed on three years of supervised release following his prison sentence. Biscotto must also pay a $100 special assessment.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa, with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

The investigation into Biscotto’s activities was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from other agencies. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania commends the efforts of all those involved in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
