PORTLAND, Ore. — The gritty streets of Portland witnessed a shocking incident as 40-year-old Temika Gardner faced federal charges for assaulting a federal officer. Today, Gardner made her initial appearance in court after the brutal encounter.
Court documents revealed that on October 23, 2025, Gardner was caught near the scene of a lawful arrest conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers. During an attempted escape, Gardner launched herself at the officers, reportedly placing her hands on multiple officers to impede their progress.
The violence escalated as Gardner struck one officer in the face, grappling with his face covering and sending it to the ground. She followed this up by swinging at a second officer, knocking off his sunglasses in the process. While the officers were focused on apprehending the arrestee, Gardner pulled the face mask of a third officer with such force that he was yanked backwards.
Finally, after Gardner struck a fourth officer’s jaw during another attempted attack, she was subdued and arrested. Gardner appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Judge today where she was ordered released pending further court proceedings.
The investigation into this violent incident is being led by Homeland Security Investigations, with the case being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation and Gardner is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
