Postal Worker Caught Red-Handed in Stealing Packages
A shocking case of postal theft has come to light in Louisiana, with a postal worker accused of stealing packages from the Loranger Post Office. Harold Saintes, Jr., a 52-year-old resident of Franklin, Louisiana, was charged on August 23, 2021, with one count of Theft of Mail, according to court documents.
According to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Office of Inspector General, the investigation into Saintes’ activities revealed that he had been stealing packages from the Loranger Post Office from September 1, 2019, through October 19, 2019. The total extent of the thefts remains unknown at this time.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans emphasized that a Bill of Information is merely a charge, and the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, Saintes faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, followed by up to three years of supervised release, up to a $250,000 fine, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment fee.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Office of Inspector General, is being commended for their diligent work in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Julia K. Evans is in charge of the prosecution.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of trust in our postal services. With this case, the public is left wondering how such a breach of trust could occur under the nose of postal officials.
The case against Saintes is ongoing, and the public will be kept informed as new developments emerge. Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
Residents of Louisiana are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to postal services to the authorities immediately.
