Postal Worker Steals $19,180 from US Mail
Johnstown, PA – A brazen case of postal fund theft has shaken the community. Michael Reich, a 57-year-old resident of Somerset, Pa., has been indicted on a charge of misappropriation of postal funds by a postal service employee.
According to the indictment, Reich unlawfully converted to his own use approximately $19,180 between May 18, 2016, and November 1, 2016, while working for the United States Postal Service. The staggering amount of money was reportedly taken from funds that came into his possession or control as an employee of the postal service.
The maximum sentence for this crime is a 10-year prison term, a fine of $250,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed would depend on the severity of the offense and any prior criminal history the defendant may have.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is handling the case on behalf of the government. The United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, led the investigation that resulted in the indictment.
