New Orleans Man Pleads Guilty in Magnolia Shorty Murder
Gregory Stewart, 22, also known as ‘Rabbit,’ has pleaded guilty to participating in a wide-ranging heroin conspiracy and several gang-related murders.
The guilty plea comes after a multi-year investigation into a heroin trafficking organization and violent gang operating in the ‘G-Strip’ area of New Orleans.
Stewart admitted to being one of the five individuals responsible for the high-profile murders of bounce-rapper Renetta Lowe, also known as ‘Magnolia Shorty,’ and Jerome Hampton, also known as ‘ManMan,’ which occurred on December 20, 2010.
Stewart also pleaded guilty to participating in the murder of Quelton Broussard, a/k/a ‘Gutter,’ on April 12, 2010, and the murder of Calvin Celestine, a/k/a ‘Plucky,’ on February 6, 2011.
He was also convicted of participating in the murder of Gregory Keys and the shooting of Kendrick Smothers on May 24, 2011.
Stewart faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and up to 5 years of supervised release for each of the murder counts.
He also faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, and at least 5 years of supervised release for the heroin conspiracy charge.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 9, 2014.
