CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In a stunning turn of events, Kevin Lemar Legrand, 23, from Beaver, was today handed down a five-year federal probation sentence for distributing deadly fentanyl.
Court documents and statements revealed that on February 16, 2023, Legrand sold approximately 7.2 grams of the lethal substance for $600 to an informant, with further admissions of selling around 6.2 grams of fentanyl for a total of $1,200 at his residence over two additional occasions in February.
On March 2, 2023, the ATF and local law enforcement executed a search warrant at Legrand’s home, seizing a cache of weapons including a shotgun, a handgun, body armor, and a significant amount of cash totaling $2,505 – much of which was proceeds from the fentanyl transactions.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston praised the collaborative efforts of the ATF and local drug enforcement agencies in bringing Legrand to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian D. Parsons led the prosecution.
Judge Frank W. Volk, Chief United States District Judge, imposed the sentence. Further details can be found on the U.S. Attorney’s Office website for the Southern District of West Virginia, with related court documents available through PACER by searching Case No. 5:24-cr-13.
Legrand’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the deadly consequences of fentanyl trafficking and the relentless pursuit of justice in West Virginia.
