BECKLEY, W.Va. – In a blow to the drug trade in West Virginia, Javon Lampkin, 23, of Stanaford, has entered a guilty plea in federal court for possession with intent to distribute heroin.
United States Attorney Mike Stuart echoed the community’s concern over the scourge of heroin, stating, “Heroin has been a source of tremendous pain for too many victims in West Virginia. Great work by investigators getting this poison and poison peddler off the streets.”
Lampkin’s criminal activities came to light when he was caught selling heroin to an informant on September 25, 2018, and September 27, 2018. His arrest followed on March 18, 2020, when law enforcement discovered over 36 grams of heroin concealed in a secret compartment within his pant leg during a traffic stop.
The defendant now faces up to 20 years in prison at his sentencing scheduled for December 21, 2020. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.
The hearing was presided over by United States District Judge Frank W. Volk, with Assistant United States Attorney L. Alexander Hamner handling the prosecution.
