Saul Ramirez-Rivera, Hit-and-Run, Illegal Reentry, Pennsylvania 2025

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A Mexican national has been handed a severe sentence for his role in a deadly hit-and-run and illegal reentry into the United States following removal.

On July 28, 2025, Saul Ramirez-Rivera, 26, pleaded guilty to illegal reentry of a removed alien and was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan.

The incident occurred on September 21, 2024, when Ramirez-Rivera was involved in a catastrophic hit-and-run in Dormont, Pennsylvania. He faced multiple charges including homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, and failure to stop at a red signal, for which he later pleaded guilty and received additional sentences.

Upon his initial conviction, immigration authorities discovered that Ramirez-Rivera had been previously removed from the U.S. on February 13, 2019, after being convicted of illegal entry in federal court in Arizona. He was not authorized to return to the country following his removal.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski led the prosecution against Ramirez-Rivera. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti acknowledged the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and the Allegheny County Police for their role in the investigation that led to his conviction.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative focused on eliminating cartels, transnational criminal organizations, illegal immigration, and violent crime across the United States. Ramirez-Rivera will be returned to immigration custody after serving his sentence.
