KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Kansas City man is facing serious federal charges after a July traffic stop turned up a massive haul of cocaine. Ramon Arambula, 44, was indicted by a federal grand jury this week for possession with intent to distribute the dangerous narcotic.
The indictment alleges that on July 9, 2025, Arambula was found to be in possession of cocaine with clear intent to distribute. The case began when officers pulled over a vehicle operated by Arambula. A drug-sniffing K-9 unit quickly alerted to the presence of narcotics emanating from the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a shocking quantity of the drug: five brick-shaped packages containing approximately 5,892 grams – that’s over 13 pounds – of cocaine. The street value of that amount is substantial, and investigators believe Arambula was a key link in a larger distribution network. This wasn’t a small-time operation.
Federal prosecutors are quick to note that the charges against Arambula are accusations at this stage. The government bears the burden of proof, and a jury will ultimately decide his guilt or innocence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan A. Baker is leading the prosecution, signaling the seriousness with which the Department of Justice is treating this case.
This investigation wasn’t a solo effort. The Drug Enforcement Administration spearheaded the probe, with crucial assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Jackson County Drug Task Force, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. The collaborative effort highlights the growing trend of multi-agency task forces targeting organized crime.
The prosecution falls under the umbrella of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a program designed to dismantle major drug trafficking organizations. This particular case is part of the OCDETF Co-located Strike Forces Initiative, which embeds agents from multiple agencies together to foster better intelligence sharing and coordinated operations. The goal? To cripple the networks that fuel the drug trade and their associated financial crimes. This isn’t just about taking down one man; it’s about disrupting the entire system.
