A Rapid City couple, Nomar Ucha, 26, and Jenna Holzer, 31, have been accused of conspiring to distribute a massive amount of methamphetamine in South Dakota. According to court documents, the duo was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 23, 2016, for their alleged involvement in a drug trafficking operation that spanned several months.
Ucha and Holzer were charged with Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Discharging a Firearm during a Drug Trafficking Offense, and Possession of Firearm by a Prohibited Person. The charges are related to their alleged conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine between November 1, 2015, and February 23, 2016, in South Dakota.
The investigation into the couple’s alleged crimes was conducted by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Rapid City Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich is prosecuting the case.
Ucha and Holzer appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daneta Wollmann on February 26, 2016, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment. They were subsequently remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.
The penalty for Ucha, if convicted, is at least 10 years and up to life in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, and 5 years of supervised release. Holzer faces a penalty of at least 5 years, but no more than 40 years, in custody and/or a $250,000 fine. Restitution may also be ordered for both defendants.
A trial date has been set for May 3, 2016. Ucha and Holzer are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The charges against them are merely accusations, and they have the right to a fair trial.
As the investigation continues, the community is left to wonder about the extent of the couple’s alleged involvement in the methamphetamine trade. The charges against Ucha and Holzer are a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
