Rashaad Tariq Lee, Mail Theft and Identity Theft, Florida 2024

A Pensacola man has been sentenced to federal prison for a string of mail theft and identity theft crimes, authorities announced.

Rashaad Tariq Lee, 31, was sentenced to 25 months in federal prison for Unlawful Possession of Stolen Mail and Means of Identification, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.

The sentence was handed down on February 22, 2024, following an investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Law enforcement officials executed a residential search warrant at Lee’s apartment and seized stolen mail, counterfeiting tools, and identification belonging to 71 individuals, including driver’s licenses and social security cards.

The investigation revealed that Lee had been using a senior citizen’s identity to obtain the apartment and had been stealing mail and using the information to commit identity theft.

‘I truly appreciate the outstanding investigative work by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service that put an end to this offender’s fraud and theft schemes,’ said U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin.

Lee’s imprisonment will be followed by a three-year term of supervised release, during which time he will be subject to certain conditions and requirements.

The case was investigated jointly by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer H. Callahan prosecuting the case.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida is one of 94 offices that serve as the nation’s principal litigators under the direction of the Attorney General.
