Rayvon O. Archibald, Sex Trafficking of a Child, Maryland 2016

Baltimore, Maryland – A Boston man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in recruiting and exploiting a 13-year-old girl for commercial sex acts in Baltimore, Maryland.

Rayvon O. Archibald, 26, of Boston, Massachusetts, was sentenced today to 14 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for sex trafficking of a child.

Archibald was found guilty of recruiting, harboring, and transporting individuals to engage in commercial sex acts. He used the internet to buy and post advertisements for commercial sex in several states between April 2012 and March 2014.

On March 5, 2014, Archibald encountered the 13-year-old girl in New York City and provided her with alcohol and drugs. The next day, he transported her to the Baltimore area and forced her to engage in commercial sex acts at an apartment in Gwynn Oak, Maryland.

Archibald and his co-defendant, Jonathan Went, posted an ad on a commercial sex website soliciting customers for the girl. They instructed her on pricing for commercial sex acts and provided her with a document that included prices. Multiple customers responded to the ad and were directed to the apartment, where Archibald and Went forced the girl to engage in commercial sex acts.

The girl escaped from the apartment on March 7, 2014, and called 911. Police found her at a nearby intersection and arrested Archibald and Went. The girl identified Archibald as her captor and stated that he had assaulted her.

Archibald and Went remain detained. Jonathan Went, 31, of Massachusetts and Gwynn Oak, Maryland, previously pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit sex trafficking of a child and faces up to life in prison at his sentencing scheduled for July 5, 2016.

The case was investigated by the FBI-led Maryland Child Exploitation Task Force (MCETF), which coordinates with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Maryland State Police Child Recovery Unit to identify missing children being advertised online for prostitution.
