Fentanyl Possession Case Rocks St. Albans

Reginald Clay Jackson, a 43-year-old resident of St. Albans, West Virginia, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. The crime took place on October 3, 2023, when law enforcement officers arrested Jackson after conducting a traffic stop of a scooter he was operating in St. Albans. The scooter was reported stolen and Jackson could not produce a valid license, insurance, or registration.

During his processing at the South Charleston Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, officers found a plastic bag under a bench in the booking area. The bag contained seven individually wrapped baggies, each containing approximately 1 ounce of fentanyl. Security video footage showed Jackson removing the bag from his clothing and throwing it under the bench during his processing.

Reginald Clay Jackson is scheduled to be sentenced on August 13, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. This significant sentence reflects the severity of Jackson’s crime and the need to protect the community from fentanyl-related harm.

United States Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of West Virginia State Police and the assistance provided by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This collaboration is crucial in disrupting the illicit fentanyl trade and bringing perpetrators to justice.

Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber presided over the hearing, ensuring that the case was handled fairly and in accordance with the law. Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum is prosecuting the case, demonstrating the dedication of federal prosecutors to upholding justice.
