Local Educator Accused of Opioid Trafficking

Reynaldo Sanchez, a 25-year-old classroom assistant at an Lawrence elementary school, was arrested and charged with attempted possession and intent to distribute oxycodone.

According to a federal complaint, Sanchez arranged to purchase cocaine from undercover agents in August 2015. He also attempted to buy 11,000 oxycodone pills from an undercover agent for $13 per pill between March 29 and March 31, 2016.

At the time of his arrest, Sanchez was carrying a duffle bag containing $48,000.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlos A. López of Ortiz’s Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit.

The details contained in the charging document are allegations. Sanchez is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in the court of law.

The maximum penalty for the charge is 20 years in prison, a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of $1 million.

Sanchez was released on conditions after an appearance in U.S. District Court in Boston.
