Former East Pittsburgh Resident Pleads Guilty to Sexual Exploitation of a Minor
A 54-year-old man from East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has admitted to violating the conditions of his supervised release from a previous conviction and pleaded guilty to a charge related to the sexual exploitation of minors.
Richard Snyder pleaded guilty to one count of knowingly possessing and accessing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct on social media. The offense occurred from July 15, 2023, until August 3, 2023.
This is not Snyder’s first run-in with the law. He was previously convicted of receipt of child pornography in 2012 and was sentenced to supervised release. However, he violated the conditions of his release by committing the instant offense.
Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. Homeland Security Investigations-Pittsburgh conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Snyder.
Snyder remains detained pending sentencing, which is set for September 10, 2025. The law provides for a total sentence of not less than 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
