Rickey Goodwin, 43, Sentenced to 17 Years for Transportation of a Minor
A Hamilton, Georgia man has been sentenced to 212 months in prison for his role in transporting a minor for prostitution.
Rickey Goodwin, 43, was sentenced December 12, 2016 by the Honorable Clay D. Land, United States District Court Judge, in Columbus, Georgia. Goodwin had previously pled guilty to Count Four of the indictment on August 3, 2016.
The case began on September 21, 2014, when a 16-year-old girl ran away from her legal guardian’s home in Alabama to engage in prostitution with her biological mother in Panama City Beach, Florida. Goodwin, a convicted felon on parole, was with the teen when they were later found in Columbus, Georgia.
A Facebook entry by Goodwin stated he was on his way to Birmingham “to pick up a lil care package.” Several ads on Backpage.com and other sites commonly used for prostitution depicted the runaway. In October 2014, the Columbus Police Department was informed that Goodwin and the teen were believed to be in Columbus, Georgia, involved in prostitution.
“The acts for which Mr. Goodwin stands convicted are truly loathsome,” said United States Attorney G.F. Peterman, III. “Without question he deserves the full measure of the sentence imposed upon him.”
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Crawford Seals prosecuted this case on behalf of the Government.
