Ring Mitchell Jr. Sentenced to 41 Months for Methamphetamine Trafficking in Louisiana

In a major blow to the methamphetamine trade in Tangipahoa Parish, Ringo Mitchell Jr. has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in a large-scale conspiracy to distribute the deadly drug.

Mitchell Jr., 36, of Tickfaw, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act, including conspiracy to distribute, and possess with intent to distribute, methamphetamine, illegal use of a communications facility, and possessing, with intent to distribute, 50 grams or more of a mixture containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B).

According to the indictment, Mitchell Jr. and seven other individuals conspired to distribute, and possess with intent to distribute, fentanyl and methamphetamine throughout the Tangipahoa Parish region of the Eastern District of Louisiana. The conspiracy was carried out through wire and electronic communications.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson praised the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, Hammond Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office in bringing Mitchell Jr. to justice.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Sarver of the Narcotics Unit handled the prosecution. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
