Rivers Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Charge
Jeffery Rivers Jr., a 39-year-old Jackson man, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Rivers sold approximately half a kilogram of the highly addictive drug on March 2, 2020, according to court documents.
Analysis by the Drug Enforcement Administration Laboratory confirmed the drugs to be 437.5 grams of pure methamphetamine. This massive amount of the potent drug is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against methamphetamine trafficking in our state.
The FBI Jackson Safe Streets Task Force led the investigation, dubbed “Hailstorm,” which began as an operation targeting illegal methamphetamine distribution in central Mississippi. The task force worked tirelessly to dismantle the networks of those involved in the illicit trade.
Rivers is scheduled to be sentenced on October 6, 2021, and faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison. The harsh sentence serves as a warning to those involved in the methamphetamine trade: you will be caught and you will face severe consequences.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Keesha D. Middleton is prosecuting the case, bringing the perpetrator to justice. The guilty plea is a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies in our state.
The case highlights the devastating impact of methamphetamine on our communities. The highly addictive nature of the drug has led to widespread addiction and violence. It is our duty as a society to address this issue head-on and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The guilty plea of Jeffery Rivers Jr. brings us one step closer to a safer and more just community. We must continue to support our law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat methamphetamine trafficking and bring those responsible to justice.
