A Prince George man has been sentenced to 12 years and 7 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Robert Damian Atkins, 39, was sentenced on April 2024 for his crime, which was discovered on April 1, 2024 after law enforcement searched his residence based on prior controlled purchases of narcotics.
During the search, detectives recovered $10,625; an electronic money counter; a shotgun; three semi-automatic pistols; multiple firearms magazines, including a drum magazine; and multiple boxes of ammunition.
Additionally, during a search of Atkins’ vehicle, detectives recovered another pistol and a backpack that contained 191 grams of fentanyl, 112 grams of methamphetamine, 84 grams of cocaine, two digital scales, and a magazine for the firearm.
In the trunk of the vehicle, officers located a bag containing multiple firearm cartridges.
After being informed of his impending arrest, Atkins fled the courthouse and cut off his GPS ankle monitor. He was later located in Chesterfield and taken into custody.
The investigation was conducted by the Prince George County Police Department, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Virginia Attorney General’s Office.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Gilliland and Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen W. Miller prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
