Ex-Convict Gets 33 Months for Illegally Possessing Stolen Firearm
Robert Geiger, a 47-year-old previously convicted felon, has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for illegally possessing a loaded stolen handgun with an extended magazine. Geiger, who resides in the District of Columbia, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on October 30, 2025, before Judge Trevor N. McFadden.
According to court documents, on March 11, 2024, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Metropolitan Police officers on patrol in the 1500 block of S Street SE approached a vehicle with heavily tinted windows that appeared to be idling. The officers observed the driver, later identified as Geiger, place an object to his side and pull his shirt over his waistband. After asking Geiger to exit the vehicle, officers conducted a protective pat-down and discovered a loaded 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine holding 25 rounds concealed in his waistband.
The firearm had been reported stolen by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina. This discovery led to Geiger’s arrest and subsequent charges. In addition to the 33-month prison term, Judge McFadden ordered Geiger to serve three years of supervised release.
This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police with valuable assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rajbir Datta.
Geiger’s guilty plea and sentencing serve as a stern warning to those who would choose to disregard the law and engage in illegal activities. The sentence handed down by Judge McFadden reflects the severity of the crime and the need for accountability.
