Death in the BENCO Shopping Plaza: Antoine Turner Sentenced to 26 Years

A tragic event unfolded in the BENCO Shopping Plaza on November 29, 2020, when Demeitri Anderson lost his life in a senseless act of violence. The perpetrator, Antoine Turner, has finally faced justice for his crimes.

On September 5, 2025, Turner pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The plea agreement, which was contingent upon the Court’s approval, called for an agreed-upon 240-312-month prison sentence, to be followed by five years of supervised release. The Honorable Michael Ryan accepted the plea agreement and sentenced the defendant to 312 months.

According to the government’s evidence, Turner drove a rented red Nissan Versa to the 4500 block of B Street SE, Washington, DC, where he parked the car. He then walked around the block, took a left on East Capitol Street SE, and entered the rear alley behind the BENCO Shopping Plaza. Turner then walked to the front of Ken’s Beauty Supply located in the BENCO Shopping Plaza, where he approached the victim, Demeitri Anderson, from behind and shot him repeatedly in the back of the head and body, killing him.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department commended the work of those who investigated the case. They acknowledged the efforts of those who worked on the case from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including Paralegal Specialist Kelly Blakeney and Victim/Witness Advocate Jennifer Clark. Finally, they commended the work of Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Coronado, who investigated and prosecuted the case.

The sentence of 312 months, equivalent to 26 years, is a testament to the severity of Turner’s crimes. As the community continues to grieve the loss of Demeitri Anderson, this conviction brings a sense of closure and justice to those affected by his tragic death.
