Everett Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Child Pornography Offenses

BOSTON – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Robert Sokolowski, 52, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing, distributing, and receipt of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), announced United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England.

Sokolowski committed these offenses just seven months after being released from federal prison. The defendant’s phone was found to contain hundreds of images and videos depicting CSAM, depicting children as young as toddlers, when he lost it on an MBTA Green Line trolley in September 2024.

On September 2025, Sokolowski pleaded guilty to one count each of possession of child pornography; distribution of child pornography; and receipt of child pornography.

This case marks Sokolowski’s third federal conviction for CSAM offenses. In 2015, he was convicted in U.S. District Court for possession of CSAM and sentenced to 46 months in prison. A second conviction in 2015 resulted in a 150-month prison sentence.

Special assistance was provided by the MBTA Transit Police. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren Maynard and Eric L. Hawkins of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.

Sokolowski was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor to 15 years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release.

The case highlights the importance of community vigilance and swift action in identifying and apprehending individuals who exploit children. The MBTA Transit Police’s efforts in recovering Sokolowski’s phone and reporting the CSAM images led to his arrest and subsequent conviction.

Robert Sokolowski’s name will now serve as a warning to others who may be tempted to engage in similar acts of exploitation.
