Robin Roberts, Sex Abuse, Iowa 2022

A disturbing case of sex abuse has landed a man in federal prison for over a decade. Robin Roberts, a 67-year-old from the Meskwaki Settlement, has been sentenced to 188 months in prison for committing the heinous crime.

According to the evidence presented during his trial, Roberts sexually abused a sleeping woman at his residence on July 8, 2021. The victim had visited Roberts’ home, and while she was unconscious, he committed the act. A jury delivered a guilty verdict on June 1, 2022, after hearing the case.

In Cedar Rapids, United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams handed down the 15-year prison term to Roberts. Apart from the prison sentence, the court also ordered him to pay a $5,000 special assessment as per the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act. He will be required to serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison term.

Roberts is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody, awaiting transportation to a federal prison. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Meskwaki Nation Police Department had investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorneys Lisa C. Williams and Liz Dupuich handled the prosecution.
